Morgan Freeman Narrates the Greatest Story of Our Generation

Morgan Freeman Narrates the Greatest Story of Our Generation

Everyone has a part to play in making this world what it is. It doesn't matter how small the contribution is, it can make a difference. Like the human body, each part is important to the overall function of the body. Let us each do our part.

Talking Dog For Sale

A guy is driving around the back woods of Montana and he sees a sign in front of a broken down shanty-style house: "Talking Dog For Sale" He rings the bell and the owner appears and tells him the dog is in the backyard.

The guy goes into the backyard and sees a nice looking Labrador retriever sitting there.

"You talk?" he asks.

"Yep," the Lab replies.

After the guy recovers from the shock of hearing a dog talk, he says "So, what's your story?" The Lab looks up and says, "Well, I discovered that I could talk when I was pretty young. I wanted to help the government, so I told the CIA. In no time at all they had me jetting from country to country, sitting in rooms with spies and world leaders, because no one figured a dog would be eavesdropping."

"I was one of their most valuable spies for eight years running. But the jetting around really tired me out, and I knew I wasn't getting any younger so I decided to settle down.

I signed up for a job at the airport to do some undercover security, wandering near suspicious characters and listening in.

I uncovered some incredible dealings and was awarded a batch of medals. "I got married, had a mess of puppies, and now I'm just retired."

The guy is amazed.

He goes back in and asks the owner what he wants for the dog.

"Ten dollars," the guy says.

"Ten dollars? This dog is amazing! Why on earth are you selling him so cheap?"

"Because he's a liar. He never did any of that stuff."

There are some slight variations to this fictitious and humorous story but the moral remains the same. I am not sure if it was intended to teach a lesson but I have found a few in it.

Firstly, the dog’s owner failed to see the value of the dog; all he saw was a liar. He had a dog who could talk but because he lies he thought he was a worthless, good-for-nothing lying dog. He didn’t see that this dog had the potential to become something of value to him. That is the problem with many people, they look at us and they can’t see beyond the obvious. They only see what we are now, and judge us accordingly.

Secondly, the owner may not have realized that the dog was expressing a desire all these years, and with a little help his dreams could have been realized. Sometimes people fantasize unfilled dreams, some lie about accomplishments to impress others or to get attention and acceptance from the group. This is not a healthy practice and we must learn to accept who we are. If we have friends like that we must seek to help them in their aspirations as far as possible. We must learn to listen to their ‘exaggerations’ and see if we can help them to separate facts from fiction, guiding them in doing what is right.

By the way, if you see a talking dog anywhere, don’t hold any conversation with him; he could be a spy, working for the government.

Don't Ever Give Up

There are numerous versions of the cartoon: "Never Give Up" but this is the version I personally like best. The frog, despite his small size and impending demise, has his "hands" locked around the pelican's neck to prevent him from being swallowed.

I wonder how it all ended; who suffocated or surrendered first. I admire the frog; he is not going down without a fight.

In life you are going to have overwhelming challenges and problems that you must face, but rather than succumbing passively or hopelessly, you must confront them and deal with them head-on. Don't ever give up.

Be Patient! God Isn’t Finished With Me Yet!

As a young Christian I collected stickers, and there is one that was very special to me. There was this butterfly that was waiting on a caterpillar to change, so that they could fly away together. The caterpillar said to the butterfly, “Be patient! God isn’t finished with me yet!” Of course, those familiar with metamorphosis know that the caterpillar goes through changes to become a butterfly. Yes, those beautiful butterflies that we admire so much were once gross looking caterpillars, but over time they undergo a transformation. Such change takes time and requires patience.

Like the caterpillar, we too experience changes in our lives before we can become what we want to be. However, not many of our acquaintances give us a chance for these changes to take place. They only see the flaws and imperfections, and believe that is the sum total of all that we can be. Many people can only see us as we are now, not what we can become. They do not understand that the process of developing into our full potential is yet to come. They do not realize that God is still working out His purpose in our lives and that with time we can become what He wants us to.

Unfortunately, sometimes some of us join them in their beliefs and think that we cannot become anything of worth or value in society. There are times when we are the ones who have given up on ourselves, thinking that we cannot move beyond our present status in life. We need to realize that God has not given up on us, but is working His purpose out in our lives; we just need to be patient. The next time you feel like giving up because you have not realized your dreams as you had hoped, or others think you are a failure, remember God isn’t finished with you yet; just be patient.

This song sums it up.
CHORUS:
He's still working on me to make me what I ought to be.
It took Him just a week to make the moon and stars,
The sun and the earth and Jupiter and Mars.
How loving and patient He must be, He's still working on me.

1. There really ought to be a sign upon the heart,
Don't judge her yet, there's an unfinished part.
But I'll be perfect just according to His plan
Fashioned by the Master's loving hands.

CHORUS:

2. In the mirror of His Word reflections that I see
Make me wonder why He never gave up on me.
He loves me as I am and helps me when I pray
Remember He's the Potter, I'm the clay.

Bloom Where You Are Planted

"But God sent me ahead of you to preserve for you a remnant on earth and to save your lives by a great deliverance "(Gen. 45:7 NIV).

The year was 2003. I had recently moved to the Turks and Caicos Islands to work as a Missioner/Pastor. I was reading a copying of Our Daily Bread devotional with the heading “Bloom Where You Are Planted” (March 20, 2002). Those words grabbed my attention, and right there and then I knew that God was telling me something. Those words are now posted on my office wall.

Long before “Bloom where you are planted” became fashionable for motivational speeches and wall plagues, Joseph had this principle well packed down in his life. Despite being sold into slavery and the subsequent injustice of imprisonment, he did not complain but did his best to make a difference in his circumstances. In both Potiphar’s house and in prison he worked so well that he was given more responsibility. Potiphar was impressed with his attitude and approach to his work that he placed him in charge of the household affairs, and even when he was falsely placed into prison for a crime he did not commit, that did not stop him. His demeanor caught the attention of the prison official and Joseph was placed in charge of the other prisoners. Talk about blooming where you find yourself.
